Balor Arts Centre Management Committee

The Balor Management Committee oversees the operation of The Balor Arts Centre on behalf of the Butt Drama Circle Co. Ltd. The management committee is comprised of members drawn from The Butt Drama Circle and local community stakeholders including STAG and BASICC.

Current Balor Management Committee members are:

Jack Quinn, Butt Drama Circle (Chair)

Jack is a Ballybofey native educated at Glencovitt NS, St Marys NS, St Eunans College Letterkenny and Letterkenny IT. He has many years experience as a professional actor working with established companies such as Jack Big Telly, Tinderbox, An Grianan, Yew Tree and Balor Rep. Jack also has a long standing relationship with amateur drama and has been treasurer of The Butt Drama Circle for the past seven years.

Kieran Doherty BASICC

Kieran is the current CEO of the Alcohol Forum. He previously worked as General Manager of Community Services in Donegal HSE. He has extensive senior management experience within the health area including operational, capital and strategic planning. He holds a Business Studies degree and an MSc in Change Management from the University of Ulster.
Kieran is chair of local community development company BASICC – Ballybofey and Stranorlar Integrated Community Company. He has a long interest in drama both on and off the stage.

Jim Holohan BE, CEng, MIEI, Butt Drama Circle
Jim Holohan was formerly employed from 1970 to 2007 as Assistant County Engineer, Chief Assistant County Engineer, Senior Executive Engineer, County Engineer and Director of Services with Wicklow, Sligo and Donegal County Councils.
He has a lifelong affiliation with the arts as a former member of Wicklow Arts Society, Sligo Drama Group, Butt Drama Circle, Ballybofey and founder member of Black Arthur’s Folk Club, Ballybofey.
He is a committee member – and on various occasions Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary – of Butt Drama Circle since 1980.

Mary Laverty, Butt Drama Circle

Mary has been involved with the Butt Drama Circle and the Balor Theatre for many years. She has played a tirelessly active role on stage, backstage and in box office front of house etc.
All told she has over 40 years experience in local theatre in Donegal.

Whitby McClay, Stranorlar Town Action Group (STAG)
Whitby McClay is a retired businessman and community activist. He was a founding member and chairman of Stranorlar Town Action Group. He was also a founding member and first chairman of the Twin Towns Friday Club promoting activities for senior citizens and now serves on its executive committee. He was Hon Sec of the Church of Ireland Diocese of Raphoe for 25 years and served as a member of the Church of Ireland Central Standing Committee.
Now retired, he managed his family business Hardware, Furniture & Builder’s Provider from 1958 to 2003 and is a member of the executive committee of the Irish Hardware Association. He has also served as chairman of the Ballybofey & Stranorlar Chamber of Commerce.

Andrew McNulty Balor Developmental Community Arts Group Ltd (Balor DCA)

Andrew Mc Nulty is the co-ordinator of the Balor Developmental Community Arts Group Ltd (Balor DCA). He has been involved with Community and Voluntary organisations for the last 20 years. During this time he has worked with a variety of stakeholders; community organisations, arts organisations, advisory groups on policy to the creation of a training unit within the Balor Developmental Community Arts Group Ltd. Andrew represented the Balor at ‘The National Strategy for Research and Data 2011-2016’ carried out by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs.

Eddie Mulligan Butt Drama Circle

Now retired, Eddie Mulligan has spent a lifetime in theatre in Donegal. He has enjoyed a long association with various amateur drama groups including Ballyshannon Musical Society and The Butt Drama Circle.
Eddie is currently vice-chair of The Butt Drama Circle.

Denis O Mahony McMullin Solicitors

Denis O Mahony was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in Ireland in 2007. He currently practices with McMullin Solicitors where his areas of practice are Local Government, Civil/Commercial Litigation and dispute Resolution, Personal Injury, Licensing, Debt Collection and Employment Law.
A Stranorlar native, he holds a Bachelor of Commerce from UCD, a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies from Dublin institute of Technology and a Diploma in Employment Law from the Law Society of Ireland.

Kieran Quinn Balor Developmental Community Arts Group Ltd (Balor DCA)
Now retired, Kieran Quinn was the Balor DCA supervisor for Teamwork and FAS Community Employment Programmes for over 20 years.
Kieran has enjoyed a lifelong association with theatre in Donegal. He was an active member on The Butt Drama Circle both as an actor and as a director for many years. He has directed numerous plays over the last 40 years not only with The Butt Drama Circle, Balor Reps and Balor DCA. He is currently chairman of Balor Developmental Community Arts Group Ltd.
