Dark Tropics core musicians Rio and Gerard found common ground in the form of Radiohead, Aretha Franklin and The Velvet Underground. Their creative vision has borne fruit with timeless, cinematic Pop-Noir. Powered by analogue instruments and retro recording techniques the music sways and breathes with burning highs of lust, the fragility of heartache and the sting of betrayal. A meld of contemporary and classic, individuality and universality, the scope of Dark Tropics is limited only by how far down the rabbit hole you wish to follow.

This Ghostlight appearance will feature the full 5-piece extra special Dark Tropics aural experience.

Indie-folk duo Laytha are cut from the same cloth as Saint Sister and First Aid Kit. Their fusion of contemporary indie melodies and harmonies with dark, traditional folkish rhythms creates a sound as wild, beautiful and untamed as their home in the west of Ireland. Specialising in weaving fiery tales and cold ballads their combination of stunning narratives and textured harmonies have quickly established them as on of the brightest new talents in Ireland.

Winnie Ama blends rhythmic electronic beats together with laid back, soulful vocals to make lyrically conscious and empowering electronic alt-pop/RnB songs. Drawing influences from across time, artists like Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald to Amy Winehouse, The Weeknd, Amber Mark, Dua Lipa and Nao have inspired Winnie Ama’s style.

In 2019 Winnie Ama made her first appearance in the charts, collaborating with Francis Groove, Simon Le Saint and Tony G on ‘I Swear’ and ‘Can’t Wait’ reaching number 7 and number 1 respectively in MusicWeek’s Urban Club Chart while her solo debut ‘What Are We’ was in the top 20 of MusicWeek’s UK Black Club Chart for 6 weeks. She has also featured in Photo Vogue and live on BBC Introducing – Across the Line.

New Champion is an arts organisation based in the heart of Belfast. Championing Irish musicians and creatives since its inception, New Champion has had its artists showcased across the UK, Europe and the Americas, pushing Irish talent to the forefront of the world.
