The inaugural Frances Browne Literary Festival launches at The Balor Arts Centre.

The Festival will be officially launched with an opening speech journalist, novelist and script writer Anna Carey followed by music from Martin McColgan and Philippa Collings who will both perform original compositions in celebration of Frances Browne. Phillipa will be joined by singers Breege Doherty, Monica Doherty, Carolyn Norgate, Ann Kavanagh, Elaine McMenamin Bradley and accompanied by musician Billy Patton..

The main event will be a performance of Frances Brown: Legends of Ulster by Shirley-Anne Bonner.

Frances Brown: Legends Of Ulster: The ‘Blind poetess of Ulster’ casts a wry eye on the complexities of Ulster life in this adaptation of Frances Brown’s humorous and supernatural Donegal folktales.

The unique and robust sounds of Ulster speech are celebrated by a cast of colourful characters in a series of fast-moving interlinked comical tales.

Legends Of Ulster is written by Stranorlar native Shirley-Anne Bonner. It stars Cathleen Bradley, Jack Quinn, Keith Lynch and Orla Mullan and is directed by Kieran Quinn.
