A family drama full of old fashioned values, humour and charm

Norwegian immigrant family the Hansons live on Steiner Street, San Francisco soon after the turn of the 20th century. Blue collar worker Lars and his wife Marta believe in hard work, a good education and in teaching their four kids right from wrong – values shared by Uncle Chris whose gruff exterior hides an inner charm and generosity.

In order to put son Nels through high school sacrifices are required by Lars, Marta and their three daughters – sacrifices not approved of by petty and selfish aunts Jenny and Sigrid.

Told through the nostalgic eye of daughter Katrin this is a classic feelgood tale of a warm, affectionate yet frugal family as they struggle to raise and educate their children through hard work, wise financial decisions and creative common sense.
